We may recommend a procedure called microphlebectomy if you have larger varicose veins that cannot be effectively treated using endovenous laser treatment (ELVT) or sclerotherapy. This minimally invasive, in-office procedure takes about an hour and requires little or no downtime. No general anesthetic is required, and there is very little risk of infection or other complications.
What’s involved in microphlebectomy?
We will mark the veins to be treated and then numb the skin over the veins. Your Total Vein Care doctor will make tiny skin incisions (“nicks”) and use a small hook to locate the problem vein and bloodlessly pull it through the skin to remove the vein. Your doctor will repeat this process for all problem veins. You may feel a slight pulling sensation during treatment but shouldn’t have pain.
What can I expect during recovery from microphlebectomy?
The small incisions are usually closed with a bandage without the need for stitches. You can usually return to work the next day. The small punctures heal rapidly.
What are the results from microphlebectomy?
There is no scarring, and you can expect an excellent cosmetic result.
